To take pains, to labour, to strive, this is to me what writing is, though it is not difficult Even the most frivolous, the most mundane, the most jovial piece of writing, if it is aimed to cause movement, was at some point born of pain; the smallest pains of childhood push us into our perceptions of the world and into the ways we then express ourselves within that world It is painful to love, it requires stripping back the self, and delving into the unconditional, which is fundamentally opposed to the nature with which we are born, that strives for selfishness so that we may survive our precarity and transcend into generosity All of this is a labour of love It is painful that I will be misunderstood in this, as I was misunderstood before, as we all, no matter how well intended at seeing, misunderstand
