nemesis
epitome of incomprehensibility Today I tore apart the logo on a van. Only mentally. It amused me.

But why? Maybe because I was stopping to pick up empty cans as I made my way through the parking lot back to the train station. Reasoning: stooping for ten-cent redemption is lowly, and so I wanted to balance that with mental loftiness.

But it WAS kind of funny in a nerdy way: the van advertised some company called Nemesis, only the "N" was somewhat separated from the rest. It looked like "N emesis," and "emesis" is a fancy medical word for throwing up.

Then I thought further: "n" is a common beginning for negation words - going back to Proto-Indo-European? - and so the company could be proudly advertising that its product does NOT make you puke.
