mensa
epitome of incomprehensibility German for cafeteria. In English and all caps, a club for people with high IQs. That is, possibly the stupidest thing smart people have invented.

I didn't always think this. My youngest uncle was a member and he went to fun meetups. He got a mug out of the deal.

But he didn't have the emotional maturity to mend stuff with his daughter. To see that even if he had flighty tendencies (I'm 99% sure he has ADHD like me, it tends to run in families), he could do more to show her he wasn't careless, callous. He could be more willing to concede that being smart didn't always mean being right.

But she's stubborn too, so I don't want to put the blame all on his side. C'est un peu compliqué.

And maybe about MENSA, I'm just jealous because I wouldn't be good enough in math. I've got a competitive streak somewhere - more so when I was young. E.g., in high school, I rejoiced that my "verbal intelligence" came out in the top percentile in some largely meaningless standardized test.

I don't know. I was just thinking about Daniel Tammet via celebrity_guycrushes, and I don't know how I'd feel if I found out he was a big participant in MENSA-type stuff. Or maybe you're pushed into that if you display particular types of genius. (I knew there was a bright side to not being a prodigy.)
