glacial
raze i balanced the forked finger of a faded tree between two of my own and tried to pry bird shit from brick only to find it had frozen somewhere between morning and mid-afternoon. hardened past the point of harming anything.

i watched a star-shaped snowflake melt into the furred face of a friend. heard piss hiss and sizzle as the absence of warmth bent it into a brick of ice. felt the furnace of my own oxygen stab at the scarf that steered my muffled speech from turning to smoke.

"so," said a voice that sounded not so different from my own. "this is what you're up against."

winter_is_not_kind. but i'll still be standing when its glacial gown is nothing but a wet rag. i'm almost sure of it.
