ferret
raze after what passed for a storm lost its nerve, i spotted you on a piece of property ten or twenty paces from mine. i thought you were a squirrel with a leaf in your mouth and another embedded in your tail. you looked like you fell from a tree, suffered a concussion, and woke up convinced it was the right time to insulate your home. you seemed too big to be so small. you slid around like a malfunctioning machine trying to till the soil. my mind moved from thinking you were a dazed or injured animal to wondering if you were some sort of flightless drone the man who lives in that house bought to care for his manicured lawn when he isn't around to make love to it with his own two hands. after my eyes adjusted, i could see the leaves were claws. and as you ambled toward a shrub and darkness overtook you, i decided you were this. 220911
