raze it came out of the pillow that holds my head, a piece of plumage plucked from the back of a waterbird. the fan i let lull me to sleep each night guided it into the air, and it rained down on me and spread its vane across the j and k keys of my laptopthe initials of my hyphenated first name, and an admission that none of this is as serious as it seems. 220321

insouciant I found a painful feather
Its iridescent black barbs
Fine enough to leave tracks on my skin
A brush for painting memories

I’ve imagined wings outstretched in the moonlight
Their span otherwise crowded by sunlight
Able to breathe in darkness
Able to rest unseen

I dream to take flight in the night’s wind
To watch the lights below while invisible in the sky
To see what the moon looks like through the clouds
Above the trees.
