doubled
raze he was talking about what happens to a piano that isn't cared for. if you don't tune it at least twice a year, the thinner strings in the upper register will split like strands of brittle hair. when a string is struck, it should ring out clear as a bell. after the spring steel starts to sing untrue, the ghost of a second note creates the illusion of a bad unison. they call that a false beat. some cheap instruments come out of the factory already haunted thanks to loose bridge pins or design flaws. with pianos that are made the right way, it's a lack of love that does the damage. and so i must be made of wire and wood. because i've gone long enough without being touched that my voice has doubled too. 240403
