darts
raze the bartender asked what i wanted. "vodka water," i said. they were out of vodka. "scotch and water, then." no scotch. i told him to make me whatever he wanted with what he had. "surprise me," i said. he smiled and mixed a drink he called the dart. he told me what was in it, but his words were lost in a swirl of inchoate sound that called itself conversation. the rounded glass felt good in my hand. i sipped at the thick, tawny liquid. it was sweet and strong. it made me think of the one cough syrup i looked forward to sucking down when i was a kid. i met your friends. they told me you screamed my name the night your eyes couldn't find my face. i felt the dart working on me. pumping its pretty poison through my veins. when you walked in, you threw your body into mine and danced with me. i let you lead. i told you i would always be here. "everywhere?" you asked, biting back tears. "no," i said. "not everywhere. but most places." 221212
