epitome of incomprehensibility I don't know if I've mentioned this, but sometimes I help cure cancer. The_perks_of_proofreading.

Okay, what I'm really doing is proofreading articles from a cancer centre. This week there are two of them and each one is about 15 pages. So about 6 hours of work. Last month I had just one.

Anyway, the latest cheerful article is about mouth and throat cancer. There's a combo chemo drug that, in the study, eradicated about a fifth of the tumours without surgery - but also killed 7 people who had other health problems (e.g. with their digestive system or liver). The bulk of tumours reduced in size or stopped growing.

So...good news if you have inoperable cancer in your neck without having any other serious health conditions somehow, I guess!

...Okay, at least it's good that this medicine, tough as it is, seems to be effective for some people. Also, it seems nausea isn't such a huge side effect of chemo as it used to be, but you've still got lots of appetite loss, painful rashes, etc. etc.

e_o_i Oh, the other article was about SBRT, which is stereotactic body radiation therapy, of course.

Basically you get a 3-D map of a tumour so you can shoot radioactive lasers at it. Sort of. Doesn't kill as much of the surrounding tissue as some older treatments, but still not completely fun and perfect.
