things_are_looking_up
epitome of incomprehensibility This is the title of a Lynn Johnston comic book, one of her For Better or for Worse collections. On the cover, things are looking up at the main character - those "things" being her dog and her youngest child. And those two are giving her guilty looks, having scattered a kit, caboodle, and yeesh_kabibble of dog kibble across the floor.

Okay, cute, but this image resonates a tad grimly right now. That is, I almost feel as if I shouldn't take joy in little happinesses when so much lies in ruin.

Be glad B. is safe in Iran? Yes, but what about the thousands of protesters killed??

Be glad I'm feeling better today? Yes, but there was a horrific shooting in B.C. yesterday. Is that fair??

The bad things, no - not fair. But being happy about small improvements in things that surround me - why not? As long as you're not insensitive to others, take your joy where you can get it.
