raze i used to turn the closed captioning on without muting the sound. sometimes the speech-to-text reporter heard something that wasn't really there. springsteen's "sad eyes" played at the end of an episode of "dawson's creek". when the boss slipped into a frail falsetto to sing, "because sad eyes never lie," the ticker tape at the bottom of the screen showed me this: "we could say goodnight. never lie." julie blew out the candles on her birthday cake to "more than this" in the eighteenth episode of "felicity", and "you know there's nothing" became "in life, there's love within". it was always the choruses that came out wrong somehow. the missteps felt more meaningful than the truth they weren't trying to trip up. they always do. 230418
