raze if you've seen stanley kubrick's adaptation of "the shining", you remember the moment when wendy sneaks a peek at the novel her husband claims he's been working on and finds countless typewritten pages with nothing to stain their skin but endless repetitions of the sentence "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy". for each different international version of the film, that scene was reshot with a fresh idiom in another language. the italian is what stops me in my tracks. "il mattino ha l'oro in bocca." it translates to: "the morning has gold in its mouth." no smear of sun to beat back darkness, but a precious metal. malleable and ductile. did i ever have days that woke me with such light, beautiful enough to blind me before restoring my stolen sight? maybe in_another_life, with a script that sang us so much sooner into each other's arms. 260819
