skedaddle
raze apparently the word has its roots in military slang, circa the american civil war. no one seems to know how it was born. they've only been able to pinpoint the birthplace.

i've always enjoyed how it sounds like something with a spring in its stomach being bounced off a wall. it creates its own rhythm just by being alive inside your mouth. first you feel the click of an unloaded gun. then the frisson of tongue touching hard palate before being flung back into its tray.

i resolve to reach for it more often when i'm saying goodbye.
