respectable
epitome of incomprehensibility Academic articles on pop culture: where e_o_i goes where she's miserable, apparently. For some reason they cheer me up.

This is a pretty good one, about Nicki Minaj's ass and sass... er, image and lyrics... even if I don't endorse the whole thing, the author makes some good points: http://www.autostraddle.com/nicki-minajs-feminism-isnt-about-your-comfort-zone-on-anaconda-and-respectability-politics-251866/

But her calling Beyoncé "respectable" makes me a bit sad. Nostalgia alert: I remember when Beyoncé, like Britney Spears and Eminem, and Korn and Slipknot in a different way, were cited as being A Bad Influence to Our Young People. And now someone can write: "In terms of the image Beyoncé conjures up in the minds of men and women across the nation, it’s pretty clear that it’s one of moderate respectability and responsibility."

For some reason Nicki Minaj is a guilty pleasure of mine. Her image makes me smile and not because I find her personally hot. It's just... sometimes you have to wear bright yellow makeup, y'know? And not be "respectable" all the time.
