raine
log burning fire i gathered the children together for the show, suggesting, with use of the chicken puppet, a "what can you do?" kind of world famous, hey everybody, ladies and jellyfish, type of vaudeville presentation.

along came, raine, a 7 year-old girl, who said she could sing. suddenly, she broke out into a cover of lenka's, "the show," which was famously featured as a song sung by the girl who plays brad pitt's daughter in the film, "moneyball."

we were all stunned. the kids, the coaches, me. she had that kind of voice you know is destined for greatness. she knew where to let it vacillate and then continue.

we all clapped when she was done. one girl, ella, even shouted encore. so, i asked her if she had another song.

raine was so beautiful. she had her hair cut short and very stylish. her teeth were perfect. she thought in the moment of her obvious glory and announced that indeed, she had another song to sing; this one was "tomorrow" from "annie."

she goofed it up, but i knew it so i helped her finish it. we even harmonized somehow. there was a look of satisfaction that washed over her i will never forget.
