raze she said she made her own seasoning with garlic and sea salt. it sounded like heaven to me. i brought three movies the night she was house sitting for a friend. "the red balloon", "the point", and "la belle et la bete". i can't remember which one we decided to watch. before we could get the dvd player to work, the power went out on the whole block. we sat together in the dark for a while. sweating. not really saying anything. then we went for a drive. there was nothing else to do. she showed me the house she grew up in. whatever stories she might have told are gone now. the heat is what's stayed with me. it wasn't the hottest summer i've lived through, but it sits that way in my mind. buttery and thick. like all those swollen kernels of burst corn i never got to hold on my tongue. 230218
