dates
raze i've been thinking about the_way blather is built. i don't mean the linking system, though that's always been a large part of the magic. i mean the dates. how they're displayed.

at_the_bottom_of_everything and off to the right is a string of six digits:

260805

i know that means today is august 5, 2026. i also know if new blathes are still being born a hundred years from now, the numbers they're branded with will be the_very_same as these. time will collapse and unspool, and one century will become impossible to distinguish from another.

not that it'll matter to us. we'll all be dead. but if this_place survives the scope of our lifetimes, and if someone somehow stumbles into the red when it's covered with cobwebs and climbing vines, i wonder what they'll make of it and how they'll orient themselves in the web of what we left behind.

maybe it won't be any more than a strange relic to them. an archive of archaic souls inked in an obsolete language no one speaks anymore. or maybe they'll realize, while wading through a mind-numbing mess of algorithms and ai-generated everything to get here, that they've unearthed something almost impossibly rare: a chorus of quiet, human voices hidden in the eye of the synthetic storm.

if we're lucky, they might want to stay a while and do a little singing of their own. and for as long as their words live beside ours, time won't matter at all.
