sunborn
Soma you were so light when you arrived
the air laced with unheard thunder
a seasonal promise not yet fulfilled –
as I waited for rainbows and found only
sun spots and gold flecks across skin
the warmth of you wrapped up in my arms
almost insufferably hot and I would
tear myself away from your attempts
to lay next to me on those sweltering nights

you were never my ray of sunshine
you were something substantitatively more
born of a star, all gilded, and as guiltless
as the unbearably heated gaze of summer
that creeps with unyielding certainty
through gaps in window blinds and over
piles of half-forgotten laundry in the dark

O blaze in judgement, glorious sphere
lay your searing visage upon me
where restless I lay
waiting sorrowfully for time to erase
the tanned flesh of me that carries this
blistering and beautiful
sunborn mark
