smiley_face
raze i don't know how long ago they did it,
but someone drew a big smiley face on the grey stone pillar at the front entrance to the park. they drew it on the inside, so you'd see it on your way out, or if you looked back over your shoulder on the way in. and deeper into the park, there on the path, easy to miss, they drew another face just like it, almost identical but a little smaller.

faces missing most of the features that would give them a clear identity can come to feel like friends. when someone disrespects one of those friends by writing something irrelevant and probably untrue like DRACULA IS A WOMAN beside it, it feels like a violation. but when there's no one around to tell off, there's not much you can do about it. and maybe dracula's still out there somewhere. maybe she really is a woman. with vampires, who knows?

some other person, probably someone who works for the city, scrubbed away the comment about dracula, and they took most of the face with it. it's still smiling. it's just harder to see the curve of its mouth for the stone.

raze what's left of that face looks like it's winking now. on another pillar, at the opposite end of the park, some kind soul spray-painted a giant blue penis pointing skyward. a reminder of what's really important.

balls.
