plainsong
raze i hear the bells most mornings now. i can close my eyes and see gold. taste without touch. world without end. i didn't realize there was a church so close to home. i can never tell if someone's just tied the knot, or if their body's been given to the ground to decompose in the most expensive bed they'll ever know. maybe the source of the sound isn't a church at all. maybe it's the weight-driven pendulum clock i carry with me. aging into its truest voice. marking the hour that means the most to me. and anyway, it's the wind chimes i listen for. they sound like the beginning of the first song on my favourite album by a band i only learned to love when i understood what it was to lose someone. 230310
