i_think_it's_going_to_rain_today
randy newman broken windows and empty hallways
a pale dead moon in the sky streaked with gray
human kindness is overflowing
and i think it's going to rain today

scarecrows dressed in the latest styles
with frozen smiles to chase love away
human kindness is overflowing
and i think it's going to rain today

lonely
lonely

tin can at my feet
think i'll kick it down the street
that's the way to treat a friend

bright before me
the signs implore me
help the needy
and show them the way
human kindness is overflowing
and i think it's going to rain today

raze (i knew i stashed these lyrics here somewhere. still the most beautiful song randy ever wrote, i think. it's been covered by everyone from nina simone to UB40 to leonard nimoy, but there's a lonesome, weary quality to the original recording that remains unmatched.) 170805

ovenbird I am entranced by the way blather is shot through with music. I keep bumping into lyrics and song suggestions and I've started listening to a few of the things that pop up every day. Today I listened to this song while wandering around the library and it was lovely. 250329

warmthofrelease Peter_Gabriel was the first one to open my eyes to this. But I like Randy's version better. It's maybe my favorite song of his, almost definitely my favorite song that isn't from Sail_Away. He's so clever and poignant and underappreciated. And maybe it's just that I can tolerate his voice, but I really think nobody could do a Randy song better than Randy could. OK maybe Three_Dog_Night but that's it. 250329
