false_thaw
past i live in a climate that has over 60 degree celsius annual range. but usually, before perhaps in false naive memory, the thermometre moved leisurely from one extreme to the next.

now weekly, it seems, this winter at least, the temperature jolts forward 20 degrees or more in a day or two. it's like i'd imagine a chinook to be, without the rapid melts as we started far colder, and given our nearest mountains (barely scratching the official definition) wouldn't even be dignified as foothill of the rockies (and the weather patterns push our storms into them, letting them occasionally linger over the river).

yet here we are again as the valley warms and the snow teases at melting and ice and flakes compete for the sky. only for the world to freeze up again in a day or two and it begins again.

another temperature swing, another special weather statement, another addition to the taxonomies_of_snow as our tacit knowledge tries to understand our changing world.
