epitome of incomprehensibility

Watching Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier in the figure_skating ice dance today, I noticed that their costumes had shapes inspired by the painting "Starry Night" by Vincent van Gogh. They were skating to a song with the lyrics "Starry, Starry Night." I thought they should get extra points for cleverness: matching a costume with a song. But now that I look up the music, Professor Wikipedia tells me that it was inspired by van Gogh, so there was already a connection. It's by Don McLean and the title is "Vincent."
