costumes ovenbird Everything is awful. But people are out there making elaborate Halloween costumes for their pets, and somehow this gives me hope for humanity. We are a species that will dress a chihuahua as a xenomorph and parade it around the streets. We put our cats in wigs and make tiny wings for our hamsters. We put itty-bitty hats on snakes and dress three legged dogs as the neighbourhood IHOP. I want more of this. More whimsy and joy and celebration and laughter and unbridled silliness. We are such beautifully, hilariously creative creatures. It’s sometimes hard to reconcile our gentle playfulness with our capacity for violence. We are so delightful. And so deadly.
