past life brings with it death, as the present is entangled with its plural pasts. the path forward has been scouted and the trail broken by decisions made (by ourselves, by others; on purposes, by instinct) that cannot be undone. ghosts stretch their spectral shades to push is forward, blind our peripheral vision, and signal the next steps. we can change course, but not by abandoning these phantom companions. they don't have form, are malleable. in reassessing the past, new futures unfold and the roles are reversed. instead we drive the ghosts forward and reclaim our agency. after all, the past is plural -- each active body makes its own. 220725
