a grassy field. talking to austin about some complicated mathematical concept. i'm getting lost easily, having trouble keeping a grip on thoughts. i walk over across a tiny, straight stream. there is a man there. he is the t.a.. i ask him to explain the math to me. he opens up the book and says, this explains it all. i point to four symbols and say, i am not familiar with any of these. he explains what they are, some of the explanations i still do not understand, most of which i now forgot, but one which stuck: "this symbol represents the invariance of a proof under different theologies". i giggle. "theologies?" i say, questioningly. there is so much in math i still don't understand.. the man talks on.. i notice a baby bird that looks like a large, dark plum with two legs and a beak. it's rather disturbing to me, really. it falls into the stream. it can't swim, or float. it sinks to the bottom like a stone. i watch it. it looks too horrific to pick up, but it will probably drown. it tries to escape a watery grave.. climbing feebly. someone comes and snatches it out of the water, and places it on dry land. it starts coughing, goes behind a bush, falls belly up, and coughs some more. i watch it, horrified fascination.. i am no longer so sure it's a baby bird. it may be an adult.

we went down the hollow insides of the Empire State Building, me and a group of fellow students, or coworkers. a christian transvestite was also there with us. there was a lecture hall in the middle where we listened to the importance of it all. then we had to climb back up and when we were done we needed to make sure that we still had all our speaker boxes.
