epitome of incomprehensibility
|
The one hanging near my parents' kitchen window is lantern-shaped. Twice in my looking, a sparrow perches at the top, seeing if it can get purchase below. A starling comes along and unsettles the three that were munching away. Then it flies off and the sparrows come back - two, three. I look away, and when I look back there are five. Surely six can fit on there, I think. And, as if reading my mind, another flutters up and takes a place. A little pushing, but they settle in. Then - seven! But someone's personal space was jostled. A squabbling. One flies away, then two.
