sticker
raze here's how you remove a sticker from the front cover of a used book when the sticker is so decrepit it's fused with the portion of paper it's hiding and breaks apart the second you try to peel it off. you make your thumbnail a stiff-blade knife. thinner than any blade your eyes have ever seen. you reverse the polarity of your brain. you don't pull down the way you've done it all your life. you push up. slow. slower than that. you seduce the little white square into believing its feigned density isn't a lie. in movements almost too small to recognize, you ease it back into itself, until you start to notice a face or a horse or a word you've already read on the spine but need to see on the face of the codex so you can tell yourself it belongs to you. you do that for as long as it takes, and then you trim your nails and you throw the past away. 211210
