raze conventional wisdom says when you're recording something as wide-ranging and nuanced as the human voice, it's a good idea to audition as many different microphones as possible. it makes sense. every voice is different, and what works well for a breathy alto croon might be all wrong for a sub-baritone death metal scream. and yet i swear this one microphone was made for everyone. at this point i've used it on at least twenty different singers. it's never been the wrong choice.

if that's luck, i'll take it.

unhinged i like to sing into the older style mics...you know, like the ones you always see in pictures of people singing in recording studios.

i've always preferred the sound of vintage equipment like old tube amps and stuff like that. digital isn't what it used to be though...in a good way. the last music technology class i took was fifteen years ago. the technology is light years away from what i learned about. but my brain doesn't really need to now the science behind how it's different. i just want to know how to plug stuff in and what buttons to push, you know. the actual technical process of USING the stuff.
