Now you can introduce a sentence with the date, as if it carries its own meaning. Locally, it does: the Quebec City mosque shooting nine years ago. The quote is from Montreal Gazette today by Samer Majzoub: "Jan. 29 [...] represented the most extreme outcome of an environment in which Muslim Quebecers and Canadians were frequently discussed as threats rather than as fellow citizens. Violence does not emerge in a vacuum; it takes root where dehumanization is tolerated." And this is one reason I'm against_Bill_21 in this province. Everyday unfairness is still unfair even if it doesn't lead to violence, but such discrimination also creates an environment for violence.
