bijou i drove all night and when the sun came up it was nearly winter in iowa. my hands were green and my stomach was sore.

i came into the city and drove back and forth across the river. every leaf was yellow and falling into the sludge but the grass had already faded. the kids rode their bikes through the rain and stood in line in the sleet at fourthirty on a sunday afternoon and didn't seem to mind. guest list plus one.

back at our hotel one of the boys from the band was sitting at the bar in the lobby with his must-girlfriend visiting from home. they looked timeless.

minneapolis, mistress, green and black checkered tiles and a frightened face. always with the cold wet streets and stale cigarette rooms.

i'll see you soon.
