DammitJanet I see things I normally miss. The slight movement of someone’s eyebrows when they’re telling you a story. The various different shades of the grass on someone’s lawn. The way the fur moves on my cat when he’s sleeping. And on the larger scale of things, the many choices and possibilities of my lifes future.

I hear things I tune out, the many sounds of the world that melt together to form the white noise that soothes me and lulls me to sleep at night. The rustling of the leaves, the tree rubbing against the hydro pole, the cars driving by on the wet pavement, the birds and crickets that cease to tire, the music a few houses down. And my favourite, the sound of someone’s voice deep in their throat before it flows out their mouth.

And when I’m silent, I say everything.
