epitome of incomprehensibility
|
A singer, composer, and guitarist from Toronto. I came across her a few days ago, via one of the secondhand CDs I'd bought for cheap and hadn't listened to yet. Disarming is the album name; on the back each song is followed by a short description of its genre, and she has fun with that: "big sister blues," for instance. I wish I had it here - I'd list more. The mixture of playfulness and earnestness is indeed disarming. Like in the protest song "Tapped and Wired." Not everything hits - a song about water conservation is a little dull, maybe being too literal or preachy - but I can't think of any others I don't like. As for ones I do, my favourite is "F.A.Q." - it asks a bunch of questions that people have asked her and her band. First you have the questions, and then you have all the answers in order. It's a lot of fun. "Is that your real name? Sounds like a stage name to me!" and "Where did you come from? where did you go?" in the rhythm of Cotton-Eyed Joe and "We are not really a wedding band (let me repeat that!) We are not really a wedding band!"
