camp
Thumos We drove the cars up to the lake last weekend. An opportunity to kayak, and we were all free enough.

I was already traveling for work, so we made the best of it with a cheap campground in the middle of nowhere on the way. None of us had tents, so we’d sleep in our cars.

The temperature dropped far more than they predicted after we drove through the rain. It was miserably cold, just above freezing. But we drove out to buy more firewood and made a campfire that never quite warmed us through. I cried and we all whined and fed marshmallows to the flames, watching them mutate into fiery abominations in the heat. We had nothing to do but shiver and laugh and tell each other stories. I prepared specialized s’mores for each of us, and Cherry took photos of my feet for some reason, while Tamara cooked.

It wasType 2fun, Tamara said, which is the kind of fun you have when you’re not really having fun in the moment but you really like looking back at it later on.

I really think it was.
I don't remember being cold, though I was.
I remember being warm around the fire and nearly spilling the grits, while Cherry choked on her coffee from laughter.
