all_the_lost_things
raze maybe you know this story.

there was a man who was terrified of forgetting everything he knew. so he gave every person, place, and thing a name. morphemes only he could see. and he tucked them all away in his memory.

as the number of names grew, his ability to retain them diminished. soon there were too many to hold onto. words began to disappear.

trees.
chairs.
birds.

he forgot them all.

on his last day, every scent and sound and faded photograph that had fled too far to be found was sewn back into the maw of his mind. he died with a song on his lips and a smile in his eyes.

all lost things are returned to us in time. but what does it mean to remember when we're lost too?
