epitome of incomprehensibility
|
I found a story on French Quora today that I've heard at least twice before. ... A beautiful young woman complains on the internet (this version says Craiglist) that she can't seem to date men who make more than $100K a year (this version says $500K). Why is that, she wonders? Isn't she hot enough to pull a "high-value" guy?? A man responds, says he's a professional investor and he makes more than [X dollar amount] per year. He says he wouldn't date her because her reasoning is faulty. See, he loftily explains, her beauty is most likely a depreciating asset, while his money is an appreciating one. And so, he concludes grandly, he'd be getting a diminishing return...so, no deal. ... I doubt this conversation ever happened...and I'm glad. Both characters sound snooty and shallow. So, despite the gentleman's protests, I ship them: they deserve each other.
