tiptoes_and_fingertips
Q We say "tiptoes" but "fingertips"!

There is a certain discordant symmetry there. Perhaps this is in tacit recognition of the differing but overlapping uses for these tips, with their lovely sensitivities of feeling and touch.

You can walk on your tiptoes, when you do not want to disturb your lover's slumber or want to surprise him/her with your unexpected presence. You can trace hearts with your tiptoes on your lover's legs while s/he sleeps, or fades, or you are sitting across a table from him/her sipping merlot, or lying together dozing, conversing, embracing or kissing.

Rarely would you walk on fingertips to avoid a disturbance or preserve a surprise. Yet you can trace with your fingertips lovelies all over your lover's body, even places tiptoes would rarely venture.

So, while tiptoes and fingertips do differ some, they both cause shudders not only in being used in certain ways but also in our contemplating the beautiful ways they can be used.
