raze right around the time the stylus finished skating from "lady day" to "jo's lament" i was moved to say out loud: good god, rod. you wrote some great songs before you sold your soul for something much less worthy of that beautifully weathered voice than rock and roll. what i wouldn't give to hear you sing something you believe in your soul just once more before you die and all anyone remembers are the cynical stabs at disco and the half-assed late-career cover songs. and now, of course, i've got "if we fall in love tonight" stuck in my head, when that must be one of the schlockiest bits of schlock you ever shat out for the money. thanks. thanks a lot, you goddamn scamp. 240801
