ovenbird A near constant state in parenting. Today triggered by the fact that my son has gym first period and refuses to bring gym clothes. Instead he runs around for an hour in his jeans and t-shirt and hoodie, with a chain hanging off his belt loop. I tried to suggest that changing into gym clothes would prevent smelling like a hockey dressing room for the rest of the day but he would not be swayed. “NO ONE DOES THAT, MOM!” he insisted, as if I were the most daft creature to ever walk the earth. It’s so frightening, the way teenagers WILL NOT do the reasonable thing unless all their friends are doing it too, even something as straightforward and logical as putting on shorts for gym. I’m not ready for the next five years. Today it’s gym clothes, but tomorrow…? 260912
