elastic
raze two leaves locked in love's embrace, wedged between the pickets of a neighbour's fence. one green. the other yellow. an orange sibling on its own, stem somehow embedded in a jagged crack that's marred my driveway for as long as i can remember. gone, along with whatever else yesterday's wild wind saw fit to carry away. of all things, this loop of rubber remains — caucho from the deeper dermis of a tree that dines on dirt half the world away from here. i wouldn't dream of touching it. my whole life is bound by that small sagging circle. 221204
