AMCE were the leading manufacturer of animators' punch card holders when warner bros studios were in their prime. So the cartoonists were drawing on top of devices with a big AMCE brand written on the top. So, instead of making up a cartoon company, as they probably should have (a la BLAMMO in ren + stimpy), the WB cartoonists just borrowed the brand name.
