raze there's this documentary in miniature where she talks about the track that put her on the map. the best bits have nothing to do with the one hit everyone's heard even if they don't know a thing about her. she twists a candle in its glass cloche and ruminates on rituals. she understands you only need to believe to make them real. she remembers the beginning of a love affair. dancing to the dim bloom of a streetlight's song outside the troubadour at closing time. she communes with a stout-bodied bird before having second thoughts about leading him on. she speaks of a triangle. "sometimes we were three. i don't know if i loved one more than the other when we were three." she rests one hand on her head and says it sounds like a poem. which is true of every bit of blues she croons when all she's doing is being herself. 260625
