raze the book he's holding is a thick hardback with a glossy cover. amberglow. the pages are ruled, but there are no words written between the lines. only the impressions of words written on other pages that once sat on top of these. thousands of blue whispers. blood from somewhere deeper than the body.

he comes to understand that every word he's ever written survives in some form. even the words he thought were lost. they can all be reconstructed from the marks they left behind, and most of those marks are here, bound together with cotton thread and heated thermoplastic. nothing written can be unwritten. nothing touched can be untouched.

only the leaves are bare. he flips to the inside front cover and writes one word. a message to anyone who might find this book after he's gone.
