Thumos
|
We stared westward into the night sky, the sound of sprinklers repeating their tsk-tsk-tsk across the suburban field. The playground equipment at the park was soaked at this hour of the morning, but we didn't care. Hot coffee and cold soda grasped in our hands, we sleepily gazed together at blurring spots and moving pinpoints in hopes of wishes. Airplanes, and satellites, and falling stars alike all received a wayward voice of joy. When the dawn finally arrived, with creeping clouds across the morning sky, we were cold and content. The hope of our fragile community was still warm within our chest, though our fingers were blue with the chill of the air.
