how_to_hold
ovenbird My daughter rushes home to tell me about the baby chicks she got to meet at school. She tells me about their soft, yellow bodies, all fluff and sweetness so extreme it stretches the ability to contain. She tells me that she learned how to hold them:

You have to hold them in two hands,” she says, so earnestly, her eyes stars. “You have to hold them so gently in two hands and hold your two hands close to your chest, like this,” she says and cups hands to her sternum. “You have to hold them close because they like to be warm, and if you hold them close in two hands they will feel safe.”

This is how we should hold each other’s hearts, I think to myself. These are instructions for love.
