There is no cycle to history -- there need not be. We've been the same petty people all this time, and that not at all subconsciously. Secretly, yes. Dishonestly. Hypocritically. Interminably. Fine, fine. THAT's the point, though. Our horror IS the lack of change; of course it is. Events may come and go (in fact, they do that, all the time); and we do cling to what distractions we may. But, the anticipatory salivating -- be honest -- is too routine, too human to be either strange or troubling, or anything so exciting.

Scared? Troubled? Surprised? I totally wish -- I envy all romantics/prophets-of-doom for that.

I call myself idly curious,...still skeptical,...and...mmm...a little hungry.
