dandy_lions
raze there are two dandelions roosting in the ragged grass. one has aged a lifetime in a day. gold mane gone grey and guileless. scape bowed by weather's weight. the other was decapitated by a house finch or a hare or some other animal finding food where most of us see only inconvenience. in my nascent days, i would knead self-pollinating seeds between my fingers until their pigment stained my skin. i was a painter playing possum in a field of apex predators camouflaged by kindness that could curdle at a moment's notice. they licked their paws and yawned when i asked to be eaten alive. 260705
