ovenbird I have learned that this term pre-existed blather. It was originally an english word of Scottish origin that means “a person who talks at great length without making much sense.” It was popularized by Gizmoduck in Disney’s Duck Tales who was fond of sayingblathering blatherskite” in place of saltier curses. I’m not sure who first used it as a name for those who blathe, but it is not, as I originally believed, a neologism made specifically for blather. 260108
