The word is funny because it can't quite manage to be aloof itself. It's like floof. Roof, an okay rhyme - aim high - but then the initial "a" gives it a goofy rhythm. Q: "Are you aloof?" A, also Q-ing: "What's a loof?" A loofah. Not a sponge. Not soaking it in, resisting. Or so it claims.
