ovenbird The homepage fed me this word and when my eyes passed over it I heard my grandfather’s voice. This was his favourite insult. I can see his face in my mind, grumpy and disapproving. He seemed to think a lot of people were twits though I don’t think the word was ever directed at me. It always made me think of birds, but they don’t embody the sense of the word. Birds are not fools. Their twittering may seem daft but they are telling the story of who they are, the only story they know. This is what I do too. Maybe it’s silly to sing when I know that almost no one will hear, but the morning asks for a song, and I give it, because it’s what I have to give. 260530
